WineScores' Review

Gorgeous, purity, seamless
Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier (Collovray & Terrier) were school friends who were so inseparable they married two sisters, and thanks to their love of wine, forged a bond between Burgundy and the Languedoc.
It began in 1986 when they joined forces to manage Christian's family vineyard that had been cultivated since 1928 by his grandfather. They named the venture Deux Roches (two rocks) for the Roche de Vergisson (in Saone-et-Loire) and the nearby Roche de Solutre (just west of Macon), these ancient angular escarpments are roughly two kilometers apart and 500m high; both can be viewed from Deux Roches in Davaye, Bourgogne.
The domaine's is to make mineral-focused and terroir-driven Charonnays grown in clay-limestone soils. Les Terres Noires comes from SainteVeran, which lies between the two escarpments, on the southernmost slopes of a prehistoric limestone ridge that runs through the valleys carved out by the river Saone. Its vineyards are among the few in Burgundy with a south/south-easterly aspect, which exposes the vines to maximum sunlight and warmth, as well as winds to help moderate temperature. The site takes its name from the black soil, rich with limestone debris, organic material, and a high proportion of humus that make this 2.85 ha parcel of vines where this Chardonnay was born.
The 2017 shows outstanding purity--wet flinty stone, oyster shell, straw flowers, lemon and yellow fruit aromas lead to a slick and seamless palate. Creamy yet precise, it has rich lemony mid-palate and a long marzipan finish.
Gorgeous.

WineDiva.ca was launched prior to WineScores, in February 2004. WineDiva is the alter ego of Daenna Van Mulligen. She wears a cork tiara and is proof that a girl can have her w(h)ine and drink it too! WineDiva.ca is a tongue-in-cheek approach to a very serious passion for all things wine. WineDiva’s goal is to make wine fun, subtly educational & deviously inspirational. Vintage reciting wine snobs need not apply. WineDiva is painting the wine world pink and drinking it all in, and her glass is always (at least) half-full.

WineScores is the more serious follow up to WineDiva.ca. WineScores was born from the demand to see wine writer Daenna Van Mulligen provide scores on her wine reviews. These are numerical scores based on a 100 point scale – an internationally recognized form of rating wines. These numbers provide a snapshot for consumers on how the wine reviewer views the overall quality of the wine. For more information on scoring wine, go to “about”.
